Lyrics

ORIGINAL PRAYER BY TERESA OF AVILA
May today there be peace within.
May you trust God
That you are exactly where you are meant to be.
May you not forget the infinite possibilities
That are born of faith.
May you use those gifts that you have received,
And pass on the love that has been given to you.
May you be content
Knowing you are a child of God.
Let this presence settle into your bones
And allow your soul the freedom
To sing, dance, praise and love.
It is there for each and every one of us.

The Story of the Song:

I tried to memorize a prayer by Teresa of Avila because I found it  strengthening. Then suddenly I thought – what would it be like to put it to music? The songwriting challenge was to stay true to the prayer but reconfigure it so that there was a pattern. I hope the spirit of her prayer has been kept intact.

Information: Saint Teresa of Avila (1515–1582)
The website, Journey with Jesus, says, “Born in Spain, Teresa entered a Carmelite convent when she was eighteen, and later earned a reputation as a mystic, reformer, and writer who experienced divine visions. She founded a convent, and wrote the book The Way of Perfection for her nuns. Other important books by her include her Autobiography and The Interior Castle.”
